Picture this: you’re watching the 2016 Summer Olympics and you see Usain Bolt hit this pose – you know the pose? After he’s just won a gold medal? Well, Usain Bolt has filed an application to trademark his signature “victory pose.”
An application was filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office on August 17 for Usain Bolt to trademark his famous victory pose, in which he hits a mini side lunge, leans his body in the direction of the mini lunge, and points towards the sky. That pose is how the world knew someone had won a gold medal and that someone was none other than Usain Bolt.
Bolt’s trademark application depicts only the dark-shadowed outline of his victory pose, to be used on items including, “clothing, jewelry, and shoes.” The trademark application also aims for his pose to be used at “restaurants, sports bars, and filing shows.”
Now, this isn’t the first time Bolt has filed to register his signature pose, however the previous application has since lapsed. So, what’s the difference between now and twelve years ago when he first filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office? Maybe he was just too busy breaking world records and sealing the deal with his victory pose. Whatever the reason, the world can’t wait to see the outcome of his newly filed “victory pose” trademark.
